The infamous video game Angry Birds first made its appearance in 2009. Developed by the Finland-based Rovio Mobile company, the game was first launched on the Apple iOS. Since then it has been made available in other versions, compatible for Android or Windows mobile OS, and quite recently it was converted for PC as well. The original game was so successful, that Rovio Mobile launched various updates and even a series of stand alone holiday or promotional versions of the game, the most notable being Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Seasons. Records estimate, that the series Angry Birds has been downloaded over 250 million times for all types of platforms, with numbers rising every day. This means that the game is currently the most successful mobile application and video game. What contributes to the Angry Birds’s worldwide fame and success is the simplicity of playing, which combined with attractive and modern graphics and models, as well as the ever changing environment in the hundreds of levels, not only puts players to the test, but also keeps them tied to an action, in which precision, as well as luck, have the final words in terms of delivering joy and amusement for the player.
In the game players use a slingshot to launch birds at pigs stationed on or within various structures, with the intent of destroying all the pigs on the playfield. As players advance through the game, new birds appear, some with special abilities that can be activated by the player by touch, on the PC version however – with the help of the mouse, as later explained. With the game’s advance however, players will also experience greater difficulty and challenging levels, caused by the various mix of structure types and the reduced amount of birds for the player to use. Therefore strategy and precision is needed, but the game largely focuses on quick and exciting game-play, which is why it is ideal for youngsters and adults alike.
